Event scent
So distinctive,
Do you know why it’s so distinctive? Because it’s only recognized when you share the same wavelength, the same experiences, and the same rhythm.
How easy is it to find a company where employees stay from late into the night, and then from morning till late again?
It’s not about the boss being great; it’s about the job being great.
How many companies or industries can shout at each other, even swear, with a straight face, but then turn around and cry, hugging each other?
It’s easy to inspire each other, but no other job needs it as desperately as event planning does,
because without inspiration, emotion dies, creativity dies, and passion dies.
The clients don’t die, but they would surely be sad, curious about what the creativity and passion from emotion would be like if it were not for the “death” of it.
How many professions require you to sometimes forget your own fate, stand behind others’ fates to understand them, to carefully time when to throw and adjust the dose of emotions towards the clients, and of course, in those moments, no one remembers their own fate?
How many professions don’t need team-building for themselves, because the nature of the job, when loved, is already the best glue, sticking firmly but as soft as roasted goat’s milk. What’s needed is to let go when there’s little work, to breathe and remember the job, and then dive back in like a moth to a flame.
Those who love the smell of events probably don’t have a refined taste for perfume, because event smells are never pleasant. With the motto #showerbeforetheshow still existing, after a successful event, out of habit, you still have to hold your nose (probably because of choking tears, just think of it that way), and of course, when eating together before the show, you have to remind each other to eat something to keep the sweat less smelly.
Once you’ve tasted the event world for a few years, you can’t leave it because the unpleasantness is remembered the longest. And it’s a strong memory when you reclaim your own identity after an event, lifting your head high, shaking off the glory and space for new emotions, clients always new and remembering the old, never-new event smell, and please, never new.
Every profession has its own smell, but when you love it, any smell is sweet. The smell of events is the sweetest.
Written for the endless and always positive energy of GA.
